Artworks & Posters Opinions (2022) — Aceler Chua

Born out of frustration, “Opinions” is Aceler Chua’s way of reflecting on the society’s interpersonal issues.

Instead of the traditional voice vote call of “Aye” and “Nay”, which respectively means “Yes” and “No”, Chua replaced “Aye” with the word “Eye”, and left the viewer with the word “Nay”. This symbolises the lack of willingness from people to compromise or agree on topics, and instead willing to be stagnant and maintain the status quo.

The upbeat colour of the art work gives us another layer of meaning to be unraveled, symbolising how people find it hard to be truthful and unapologetic, often needing to convey their thinking through an alternate persona.
