Artworks & Posters Godło (2017) — Szymon Szymankiewicz
Through his award-winning poster from 2017 — “Godło”, Szymon Szymankiewicz has painted us what many people in his generation think about the current day Poland.
“Godło” is Szymankiewicz’s reinterpretation of the Godło Polski(Polish Coat of Arms, see image below). While eagles, as in many cultures, represents the good qualities in people and in nations, Szymankiewicz has cleverly hid the Eagle away from Coat of Arms, as if the eagle is terrified and fearful of public scrutiny. “Godło” has illustrated people’s disappointment toward how Poland as a nation has not been able to tackled many of its sociopolitical issues.
As the reaction to this poster appearing on the streets of Poland, people have been writing their dissatisfactions and wishes on top of the poster as they hope their voice would be heard.
